Microsoft 365 Education updates

This message is to inform you of two upcoming updates to Microsoft 365 Education that will be generally available on August 1, 2023. IMPORTANT: Do not share announcements with customers until August 1s

The Office 365 A1 Plus plan will be retired on August 1, 2024. Microsoft is retiring the Office 365 A1 Plus plan, a free subscription that includes Office 365 desktop applications for eligible schools that purchased Office 365 for faculty and staff. Today, Microsoft 365 A3 and A5 licenses are easier to provision because they both meet customer requirements and transition planning needs. All existing Office 365 A1 Plus licenses will expire on August 1, 2024. Note: Office 365 A1 will continue to be free for education customer

The Microsoft 365 Education Storage update will be available on August 1, 2024. Microsoft is making changes to storage offerings in the Microsoft 365 Education suite. From 1st August 2024, all school tenants will receive 100TB of free shared storage in OneDrive, SharePoint and Exchange, with an additional 50GB or 100GB of shared storage per paying user for A3 and A5 subscriptions respectively ( Does not include student use entitlement) ). When using pooled storage, the school's total storage limit is the maximum amount of storage available to all users. Additionally, Office 365 A1 (free subscription) users will be limited to a maximum of 100GB of OneDrive storage (100TB shared storage for school tenants) starting February 1, 2024. Schools can choose to purchase incremental storage according to their own needs

With change comes opportunity. Changes to Microsoft 365 provide opportunities to upsell customers with higher-value subscriptions, as well as services that support customers through migration. Examples include services that support security, data governance, and moving stored files to Azure Cold Storage
